A bit about me

Rebecca with baroque, classical and romantic bows

I am originally from the Pacific Northwest near Seattle, where beautiful nature shaped my early years and remain close to my heart. My parents now live on the Oregon coast, and I regularly return to visit, give workshops, and perform concerts in the region. My husband, percussionist and instrument maker Orlando Aguilar Velazquez, is from Mexico. We also work regularly in Mexico  and teach and perform there regularly. For the remainder of the year, we reside in The Hague, Netherlands, together with our dog Buddy and our cat Kate.

I first came to the Netherlands to study historical performance practice at the Royal Conservatory. It is now an honor to serve on the faculty, where I teach string quartets within the early music department, baroque violin pedagogy, ensemble classes, and a career development course called PPP. In 2023 and now this school year in 2025, I have the privilege of serving as a research fellow, focusing on 19th-century concert practices and their relevance in today’s musical landscape.

Currently, I am the artistic director and concertmaster of Heliosfero, a Dutch-based ensemble. Since its launch in 2021, Heliosfero has organized several tours and initiated the Erasmus partnership project “Virtual Stage,” exploring innovative online music education. In 2024, we founded the Heliosfero Academy to support young musicians from around the world who wish to study early music, regardless of their background. The first Heliosfero Summer Academy took place in France in June 2024, where students and I performed in both a local wood factory and a 13th-century chapel. Thanks to scholarships from the Adriana Jacobafonds, all participants enjoyed a week of music-making free from financial stress.  If you would like more information please check out heliosfero.com.

As a performer, I collaborate with numerous chamber music ensembles and orchestras throughout Europe and the Americas. I play with B’Rock, Heliosfero, Anima Eterna and Modelo 62, and was also a member of the Richter Ensemble, a string quartet that recorded several albums of Second Viennese School repertoire on gut strings for Passacaille. My performance projects and collaborations also include Opera2day, Anima Eterna, Cepromusic in Mexico City, Sarasa in Boston, Ars Lyrica in Houston, the San Miguel Chamber Music Festival, the AMA Baroque Orchestra at Mexico City’s National University, and Brazil’s Oficina festival in Curitiba.

Through this website, I offer music lessons, information on upcoming concerts, coaching services, and access to select recordings. My coaching services will soon also be available through a dedicated website. Please explore the site, and feel free to reach out with questions or comments. I hope you enjoy your visit!
